The tall poppy syndrome
Sometimes, whoever shines brightest and has the most talent in a work environment is seen as a threat, both to the rest of the colleagues and to management itself.
One of the great contradictions of being human is often linked to the difficulty of honestly appreciating the talents and successes of others, without being affected by them ourselves. And this has nothing to do with envy. Having the courage to pursue your dreams, constantly refining your self-knowledge and building on your strengths. Every challenge becomes an opportunity for growth. This is part of emotional intelligence.
Research shows that there's a growing phenomenon in our society known as 'tall poppy syndrome': that is, when people who work hard are criticized for it: by standing out for their work, by achieving good results, by advancing in their careers, they often pay a high price. Those who stand out from the crowd are often criticized and judged. The tall poppy syndrome refers to the fact that some people generate hatred towards others when they stand out too much in certain areas, because success makes their own limitations and insecurities more visible. This syndrome is illustrated using the image of cutting the poppy that grows more than the others, so that the others don't suffer. Studies show that this syndrome affects women more than men. Those who are recognized by success in their field are quickly urged to 'fall in line', on pain of being sidelined or excluded altogether.
One of the consequences of the tall poppy syndrome is that it tends to teach individuals to be afraid of standing out: implicitly, standing out would be dangerous (if you take up too much space, you'll experience rejection, exclusion, excessive criticism and even ostracism (the action of keeping someone you don't like out of a group, a society, in a discriminatory and unfair way).
To this, I say: be Rebelleyus! Don't be afraid to grow and rise! When you work with me, you'll always get the recognition you deserve.
